Overview

  • Dr. Johnson is Co-director of the UAB Marfan Syndrome and Related Conditions Clinic; Staff Pediatric Cardiologist, Children’s of Alabama, UAB and the UAB Adult Congenital Heart Program.

He sees patients of all ages, from fetal patients, to infants and children, to adult “grown up” patients with congenital heart disease. A primary focus has been in caring for patients and their families affected by genetic heart disease, such as those with Marfan syndrome and related conditions, and children and adults with heart birth defects as well as those with acquired heart disease such as Kawasaki disease. The basic causes of heart diseases and the ways in which heart disease may worsen over time has been of particular interest. “I have been privileged to care for many great kids and gratified to see them grow up and thrive despite their heart troubles. I am constantly grateful for the hard work of our entire team in giving every child the best chance to survive and to thrive, but I am always mindful that the very best that we have to offer is sometimes not enough and that we must all work toward a better understanding of the diseases that we fight, and to continuously strive for the very best care of our patients and their families.”
