Overview

  • Dr. Bhatt completed his medical degree at Mysore Medical College in India, followed by an Internal Medicine residency and chief residency at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi, India. He then completed residency training in Internal Medicine at Temple University/St Luke’s University Hospital, followed by fellowship training in Pulmonary, Critical Care and Occupational Medicine at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City. He has been a UAB faculty member since 2012 and is currently Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Bhatt serves as the Medical Director of the UAB Pulmonary Function and Exercise Physiology Lab, and as the Medical Director of the UAB Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program. Dr. Bhatt also directs the “UAB Telehealth Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program”, a novel program directed at providing COPD patients with pulmonary rehabilitation at home with the help of telemonitoring and new technology. In 2017, he was one of UAB's Pittman Scholars and was awarded the Dean's Excellence Award for Research by the UAB School of Medicine.
Dr. Bhatt’s clinical interests include Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and advanced emphysema. As part of the multidisciplinary team at the COPD Clinic, he has a particular interest in the comprehensive holistic management of COPD patients. He also evaluates patients for lung volume reduction procedures and has a special interest in bronchoscopic lung volume reduction procedures including endobronchial valve and coil placements.
