René Pierre Myers, M.D., received his undergraduate degree in zoology from Weber State University in Ogden, UT. From there he went on to complete five years of medical school at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, one year of which was dedicated to the University of Rochester year-out student fellowship in clinical and anatomic pathology. He graduated medical school with numerous accolades including MD with Distinction in Research, Alpha Omega Alpha, and multiple academic awards including The American Society for Clinical Pathology Award for Academic Excellence and Achievement. He also completed the Medical Education Pathway as the first graduate to do so at the University of Rochester. He was then selected to complete the combined plastic surgery residency program at the University of Rochester where he received extensive training in all aspects of plastic surgery including general reconstructive surgery, microsurgery and cosmetic surgery. He then elected to complete a further year of comprehensive training in craniofacial and pediatric plastic surgery at Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas and University Medical Center Brackenridge in Austin, Texas.
Dr. Myers joined the UAB Division of Plastic Surgery in August of 2015. A researcher and an academic leader, he has had his work presented at national and international plastic surgery conferences and has published his work as well as many book chapters. He has been fortunate to travel internationally to perform overseas cleft and craniofacial work and looks forward to continuing these trips. He currently functions as the Associate Program Director for the Plastic Surgery Residency Programs at UAB.
He sees patients at The Kirklin Clinic as well as at Children's of Alabama and thoroughly enjoys taking care of both adult and pediatric patients.
