Research Overview

  • My research involves the analysis of proteins that are glycosylated in the context of human diseases. This includes O-glycosylation of the immunoglobulin IgA1 involved in the pathogenesis of a kidney disease called IgA nephropathy and the multiple N-glycans of the HIV Env glycoprotein which is a target for HIV vaccine design. My lab makes use of high resolution mass spectrometry to gain a better understanding of the range of glycans present on proteins. We then put that knowledge of the characterized glycans into the context of how the various proteins function. Additionally, we make use of a variety of MS based techniques to characterize protein structure and protein complexes.
