In Situ Hybridization

  • The molecular etiology of a number of constitutional and acquired neurological disorders is based on abnormalities in chromosomal number or structure. Molecular cytogenetic evaluation of these diseases relies on the utilization of in situ hybridization (ISH) techniques including fluorescence ISH (FISH) and newer, microarray-based methods such as array comparative genomic hybridization (aCGH) and single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) arrays for molecular karyotyping.
