Transformation of progenitor cells for treatment of retinal disease

  • There has been a growing interest in regenerative medicine strategies for the treatment of degenerative diseases of the retina. This chapter examines the transformation of retinal progenitors and bone marrow-derived progenitors for the treatment of retinal disease. Generation of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), photoreceptors, retinal neurons, and endothelial cells for therapeutic applications of transplantation is a viable strategy.
