A new highly polymorphic (CA)n marker isolated from a human chromosome 19 library

Academic Article

  • A new highly polymorphic locus containing a (CA)n microsatellite repeat was isolated from a human chromosome 19 library, and its 539-bp region was sequenced. PCR revealed 13 alleles comprising 19-32 repeated units in the Belarussian, Udmurt, and Bashkir populations. Genotype frequencies were shown to obey the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. A possibility of using the locus in population studies and genetic mapping was analyzed.
