A computer system for the acquisition and analysis of precordial electrocardiographic (EKG) maps is described. Results of analysis of EKG maps in a group of patients with anterior myocardial infarction are presented. Electrocardiographic variables were compared to angiographic indices of left ventricular (LV) function and enzymatic indices of infarct size. Values of EKG variables from this system are consistent with values reported in the literature from similar studies. It is shown that the total R-amplitude is related (r equals 0. 64) to the LV ejection fraction and to percent abnormally contracting segment (r equals minus 0. 51). There was no close correlation between ST-segment elevation and enzymatic indices of infarct size.
