PASM is a large-scale multimicroprocessor system designed as a tool for studying parallel image processing and pattern recognition algorithms. This system can be dynamically reconfigured to operate as one or more SIMD and/or MIMD machines. A prototype of the PASM system based on currently available 'off-the-shelf' components has been designed. The architecture of PASM and the planned implementation of the prototype are overviewed.
