Case Examples

  • The following case examples will allow you to apply the information from this text to scenarios that may be similar to ones encountered in clinical practice. There are many ways to approach such cases, but a basic framework has been provided to guide you through each assessment, with solutions on the pages that follow. In many cases, several other conditions could be included in the differential. The differential lists provided were restricted to the most likely conditions based on the information provided for the sake of simplicity. The information provided in this text has hopefully highlighted the importance of determining whether genetic evaluation is appropriate for children with personal and/or family histories of cancer as well as explained the process and outcomes of genetic evaluation. However, we stress the importance of referral to a genetics specialist for formal evaluation when possible.
