5f localization in actinide elements at high temperatures

Academic Article

  • It is suggested that the itenerant 5f electrons in plutonium and neptunium become localized at high temperatures close to melting. This conclusion is supported by unusually large thermal expansions and recent observation of high temperature β-Np structure in trivalent scandium under pressure. © 1982.
