An energetic analysis of the reproduction in the brooding heart urchin Abatus cordatus and a brooding starfish was initiated. A quantitative transect of a rocky intertidal area in the Baie du Morbihan showed distinct zonation with high biomass of both macroinvertebrates and macroalgae. Encrusting coralline algae and chitons occupied the highest tide pools; leafy macroalgae, mussels, chitons and anemones occupied the mid-level tide pools; low-growing macroalgae and mussels occurred at extreme low tide levels below the Durvillea belt. -from Current Antarctic Literature
