A Note on the Fate of Postmodern Theory and its Failure to Meet the Basic Requirements for Success in Medical Sociology

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine why postmodern theory failed to gain a foothold in medical sociology and ultimately became little more than relic of a recent period in sociological thought. The significance of this outcome for medical sociology has not been examined. Yet, the fate of postmodern theory is instructive not only in relation to the theory's strengths and weaknesses but also in relation to what it tells us about the basic fundamentals that any theorizing in medical sociology must include.
