Pathophysiology and recoverability of function and structure in obstructed kidneys

Academic Article

  • Obstruction of the urinary tract, from early development through adolescence, contributes significantly to kidney damage. In children under the age of 10 years, obstructive uropathy accounts for the largest number of children who require dialysis and transplantation. The purpose of this article is to review how obstruction affects renal structure and function; our attention will then be focused on the recoverability of structure and function once obstruction is relieved.
