Nothing is more important to a clinical research study than recruiting and then retaining subjects in a study. In addition, losses to follow-up can destroy a study. This chapter will address issues such as why people participate in clinical research, what strategies can be employed to recruit and then retain subjects in a study, issues involved with minority recruitment, and HIPAA; and, will include some real examples chosen to highlight the retention of potential drop-outs.
