• Dr. Patterson is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She completed her medical training at Wake Forest School of Medicine (formerly Bowman Gray School of Medicine). Following her Internal Medicine internship at NC Baptist Hospital, she entered her residency at UAB. Dr. Patterson continued her medical training at UAB with a fellowship in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine. She is currently the medical director at UAB Sleep/Wake Disorders Center.

    She has interest in treating patients with sleep disorders especially those patients that have difficulty tolerating PAP therapy for their sleep apnea.

    Research Overview

  • Dr. Patterson’s past research has focused on sleep quality, gastroesophageal reflux disorders, asthma, and sleep-wake disorders. Currently, she is a sub-investigator for the DREAM study and the OSPREY study.

  • Dr. Patterson is active in sleep medicine education – medical students, residents and fellows in the Sleep fellowship. She is on the Sleep Medicine fellowship education committee.
