Nathan Oliver is a Senior Instructor in the Collat School of Business at UAB. Having a passion for business and understanding its impact on the global economy, Oliver studied a myriad of principles and strategies for developing a strong and fruitful enterprise, whether as a sole proprietor, a small business or a large corporation. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the UAB and his MBA from Alabama A&M University. He has direct management and leadership experience after having worked about 19 years for a major corporation providing supervisory and executive leadership for the operations of one of its stores. It was here that he developed significant experience in quality assurance, sales marketing, personnel management and administration, training, accounting and financial management. On the other end of the spectrum, he developed entrepreneurial skills when he owned and operated a Baskin Robbins franchise. Here he performed supervisory duties as well as marketing, financial, cost analysis, strategic planning and budgetary functions to ensure an effective and efficient operation. His education, training and experience prepared him for the position of program coordinator for the Small Business Center at a local junior college and for his current position as Senior Instructor at UAB. While Oliver enjoys teaching numerous classes, Strategic Management, a senior capstone business course, is one about which he is quite passionate.
