Overview

  • Erica A. Newfield DNP, RN, PHNA-BC served for 10 years as the Clinical Services Manager of the New Mexico Department of Health’s Breast and Cervical Cancer (BCC) Early Detection Program. In this role Dr. Newfield led clinical oversight of a comprehensive statewide cancer screening and diagnostic provider network, and assured alignment with the Program’s core mission to increase access to high-quality breast and cervical cancer screening and diagnostic services among under-resourced individuals. From this experience, Dr. Newfield cultivated her research interest in interventions to increase cervical cancer screening uptake, particularly within health centers funded by Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Prior to her leadership in cancer screening, Dr. Newfield worked for four years as a Public Health Nurse for the New Mexico Department of Health, in the Taos County Public Health Office. Dr. Newfield earned her DNP with a focus is nurse executive organizational leadership from The University of New Mexico, a Master of Science in Nursing Degree from Emory University, with a focus in Public Health Nursing Leadership, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree from West Virginia University.
