Overview

  • Mythreye Karthikeyan (K. Mythreye) received her Bachelors in Science from Delhi University in the Biochemistry honors program and after completing her MS in Biochemistry, received her PhD from UNC Chapel hill in 2005. She received postdoctoral training at Duke University prior to starting her independent lab at University of South Carolina in 2013.She received tenure and promotion in the Summer of 2019, following which she moved to University of Alabama at Birmingham as a tenured Associate Professor. She is a Graduate Faculty, Co-director of the TMS T32 and a Scientist Member of the Cancer Cell biology program at the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center.

    Research Overview

  • Lab is interested in understanding mechanisms of tumor progression and metastasis in gynecological cancers. Emphasis is on consequences of alterations in signaling due to various cellular stressors.
    Major methodologies used include: Animal models of ovarian cancer metastasis, cell line and patient derived primary cellular strategies, transcriptomics, kinome, proteomic approaches and therapeutic strategies ( antibody and small molecule)
