Scholarship
My primary scholarship interests focus broadly on seeing young female students provided with the opportunities and knowledge necessary in order for them to succeed in the 21st century and beyond. More specifically, I am working to build a bridge between K-12 and informal learning environments through higher education pre-service education and research resulting in stronger collaborations, better communications and resources to encourage girls in mathematics and science endeavors and careers.
Service
My personal mission is to be able to serve in capacities which will allow me to be a role model for female students (K-College), female teachers and other female colleagues. As a female faculty member in Educational Psychology and Research, a wife and a mother of 2 children, one of which is my daughter, it is my hope that my service activities will permit other females to discover how it is possible to balance work life with family life. It is also important to me to give back" as I have always been taught that it is "better to give than to receive". This is something that I try to teach not only to my children but to my students, colleagues and school. While it has not been an easy process, it has been extremely rewording to have opportunities to work with other colleagues at the national, institutional, school and community levels."
