Steven G. Lloyd, MD, PhD received his BS from Auburn University and his MD (1997) and Ph.D. (Physics, 1996) from Emory University. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease, with emphasis on Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, in 2004. After completing fellowship, Dr. Lloyd joined the faculty at UAB as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Cardiovascular Disease. He is currently Professor of Medicine, Radiology, and Biomedical Engineering and Associate Division Director for Education and Training, and serves as the Program Director of the Cardiovascular Disease Residency Program and as Head of the Section for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance. Dr. Lloyd coordinates the clinical and research activities of the UAB Cardiovascular MRI Center, where he guided the facility to accreditation by the Intersocietal Commission for Accreditation of Magnetic Resonance Laboratories (ICAMRL) in 2007—making it the first Cardiovascular MR Center fully reviewed and accredited by ICAMRL. It has been continuously accredited since that time. He also is Past President of the Alabama Chapter of the American College of Cardiology (2011 – 2015) and a past member of the Board of Governors of the American College of Cardiology and the ACC Publications and Young Investigators Awards Committee, and the ACC Foundation Education Quality Review Board. He has authored or co-authored over 100 scientific manuscripts related to a broad spectrum of fields in cardiology, but most prominently in the field of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance. He most enjoys working with patients and mentoring clinical and research trainees.
