Dr. Lee is an Associate Professor and a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) with more than 15 years experience as a FNP. She earned a BSN from the University of Alabama. Shortly thereafter she completed a MSN at the UAB followed by a Post Masters FNP at the University of Alabama at Huntsville. She has both clinical and management experience. Her clinical background includes: GI surgery, diabetes, cardiology, telemetry, critical care, and primary care. Most of her primary care practice experience has been with disadvantaged urban populations. She is passionate about addressing the high prevalence of diabetes due to lifestyle habits, genetic predisposition, and obesity, specifically among people of color. Collectively these factors increase the risks for cardiometabolic disease and pose a major threat to all populations. Her clinical practice sparked her interest in scientific discovery, so she returned to the UAB and completed a PhD in 2012. Dr. Lee teaches in the doctorate and masters programs at the School of Nursing. She especially enjoys the opportunity to impact nursing education and practice, and scientific discovery that will improve the health of individuals living with chronic diseases..
