Leandra Y. Celaya is a faculty member in the Department of Health Services Administration in the School of Health Professions at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her current responsibilities include managing operations for the Executive Doctoral Program in Healthcare Leadership and the Department’s growing global educational partnerships. Her administrative responsibilities include program operations, planning logistics, writing and negotiating contracts, and coordinating with in-country contacts to execute programs such as international health system visits and the Executive Master of Science in Health Administration at in Saudi Arabia. Ms. Celaya's responsibilities also include developing international relationships and projects for the Department of Health Services Administration. She is involved in many other university activities, including the UAB Fulbright Committee, the Sparkman Global Scholars Program and the UAB Global Citizenship Committee where she represents the School of Health Professions. She is co-chair of the HSA Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee and is a UAB Diversity Ambassador.Her teaching responsibilities include HCM 306, a course in the Healthcare Management undergraduate program that aims to develop students' cultural awareness, competency, and intelligence. She is a co-instructor for HA 655 Synthesis in the Executive MSHA program and provides consultation for other faculty members in instructional design for executive education and in developing more inclusive teaching practices.Ms. Celaya has a publication in Cross Cultural Management: An International Journal, in a topic that is relevant to her interest in cross-cultural communication: “Pre-Departure Cultural Training: US Managers in Mexico.” She has presented on the Department's international and DEI work at both national and international meetings. In addition, she served as co-editor of the special issue on management of culture and cultural change in healthcare organizations of the European Journal of Cross-Cultural Competence and Management.Prior to joining the faculty at UAB, Ms. Celaya worked at Bradford Health Services in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where her duties included healthcare marketing, public relations, event planning, and meeting management. Ms. Celaya has also worked as an instructional design specialist at Leadership Strategies International in Bowling Green, Kentucky, where her duties included healthcare management consulting, human resource management consulting and leadership and communication skills training.Ms. Celaya is a founding member of and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Better Together, Inc. She is an active member of Rotary Club of Shades Valley. As a Rotarian, Ms. Celaya has served on the Board of Directors, as Grants Committee Chairperson, and International Service Director, and as a member of several committees. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Corporate and Organizational Communication from Western Kentucky University and is a former Ambassadorial Scholar to the United Kingdom, where she earned a Master of Science in International Business from the University of Salford, England.
