Overview

  • Kristi S. Menear’s professional disciplinary background is in special education and adapted physical education. As chair of the Department of Human Studies in the School of Education at UAB, she supports the work of 30 faculty and over 850 students in the following program areas: counselor education, educational foundations, educational leadership, educational psychology and research, community health and human services, physical education, and fitness leadership/exercise science. She is a former participant in UAB’s BLAZE Leadership Academy and an inaugural member of UAB’s campus-wide two-year Executive Development Program. When she was faculty in the physical education teacher education program, she trained special education teachers and physical education teachers to work with students who have disabilities. She has consulted with Alabama’s public schools and other school systems nationwide to address the needs of the students and the physical educators regarding physical education for students with disabilities. Her professional service and scholarship focuses on health and wellness for individuals with disabilities.
