Overview

  • Kristine Ria Hearld, Ph.D., is currently an associate professor in the UAB Department of Health Services Administration. Her educational background includes a B.A. in Anthropology, an M.A. in Demography, and a Ph.D. in Demography from the University of Pennsylvania. Ria also holds a Masters of Philosophy degree from University of Cambridge. Prior to joining UAB, she worked for Medical Advantage Group in East Lansing, Michigan, where she served as a consultant and manager for a 200-member independent physician association and a 140-member physician-hospital organization.

    Research Overview

  • My research agenda seeks to identify behavioral interventions to improve the health of well-being of vulnerable and under-served populations that are at high risk of experiencing stigma and discrimination. Vulnerable populations I have worked with include racial minorities and immigrants, religious minorities, and sexual and gender minorities both in the United States and in International Settings. I teach Data Analytics (Undergraduate, Masters, Doctoral levels), Research Methods, and Global/Comparative Health.
