Positions

Overview

  • I earned B.S. degrees in Microbiology from Texas A & M University and Medical Technology from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Dallas and worked for 15 years in laboratory medicine and data management. I received my Ph.D. in Health Psychology from the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth in 2009. I joined the Section on Statistical Genetics at UAB in June of 2009 as a post-doctoral scholar and was a T32 Trainee in Vascular Biology and Hypertension. I am now an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health Behavior.
  • Research Overview

  • I work on a variety of systematic reviews and meta-analyses of randomized-controlled trials for nutrition and obesity interventions, as well as reviews on public health topics. As a result of these experiences, I am working on meta-research to improve the findability of scientific literature to support the FAIR principles.

I am interested in gender and racial differences in behavioral and neuroendocrine risk factors for weight gain, as well as resistance to weight loss. In particular, I am focused on stress-related influences on disinhibitory eating and body composition in humans and animal models. I am also interested in psychological and physiological changes in hunger and appetite regulation after bariatric surgery.
