Overview

  • James C. Walker, Jr. MD completed his undergraduate training at the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa, Alabama followed by medical school at the University of Alabama School of Medicine at The University of Alabama in Birmingham. Following a rotating internship at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham, he completed his residency training in Diagnostic Radiology at The Baptist Medical Centers in Birmingham (Montclair and Princeton). He then joined The Birmingham Radiological Group, PC where he practiced at The Baptist Medical Centers in Birmingham as well as later at Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper, Alabama and Citizens Baptist Medical Center in Talladega, Alabama as well as smaller hospitals that the group covered.

    He was Chairman of the Department of Radiology at Princeton Baptist Medical Center for approximately 9 years in the 1990s and was Radiation Safety Officer for at least 20 years at that facility. He also served on the Credentials Committee there for many years. During his entire practice with the Birmingham Radiological Group he was active on the Voluntary Faculty in the Radiology residency training program.

    He helped implement the MQSA standards at BMC Princeton in the 1990s for the mammography department and served as the Lead Interpreting Physician for Mammography there for over 20 years. He also served as lead Interpreting Physician for Mammography at Walker Baptist Medical Center, Citizens Baptist Medical Center, Baptist Imaging Center in Hoover, and the Simon Williamson Clinic.

    When the Princeton Breast Care Center was formed several years ago, he was appointed Co - Medical Director and later served as Director for several years. He was instrumental in leading the Princeton Breast Care Center to become a certified Breast Center by the NAPBC and was Director of the facility when the Center successfully was recertified by the NAPBC in 2016.

    He retired from his practice with The Birmingham Radiological Group - Princeton, PC at the end of June 2017 and began his affiliation with UAB in the Breast Imaging Section in September 2017.
