Jana Watson Villanueva grew up in northeast Alabama and graduated from Fort Payne High School in 2005. Jana majored in human biology at Bryan College and graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in 2009. Jana met her husband David in college where they both studied biology and played collegiate soccer. Jana earned her master's degree in PA Studies from Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC in May 2014. She cared for patients in primary care at Wake Forest Family and Community Medicine and in student health at High Point University for 3 years before her family transitioned to Birmingham, AL in June 2019. Ms. Villanueva joined the PA faculty at UAB in the Department of Clinical and Diagnostics Sciences in the School of Health Professions on November 1, 2019. She serves as clinical coordinator and also provides didactic instruction in clinical medicine with an emphasis on inquiry-based learning. Jana is passionate about providing medical care to the underserved and playing with her 3 boys. She enjoys hiking, good coffee, running, and racing triathlons.
