• Dr. Doug Wallace is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine. He completed his medical school training at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and Emergency Medicine residency training at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Dr. Wallace was honored to be the recipient of the inaugural Bobby Lewis M.D. Resident of the Year award at the completion of his residency training. He went on to complete combined fellowship training at UAB in Mass Casualty Incidents and Global Health while serving as the Clinical Practicum Fellow for the UAB Research Center of Excellence in Arsenicals through the NIH CounterACT Program. As part of his fellowship, he underwent clinical rotations in rural Kenya, completed the American College of Medical Toxicology's (ACMT) Total Tox Course in Washington DC, served on a UAB Disaster Management committee, obtained a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene after completing the The Gorgas Course in Tropical Medicine in Lima, Peru, and gave presentations on chemical weapons and arsenical exposures at the Mediterranean Emergency Medicine Conference in Croatia as well as to residents, medical and college students, and EMS providers. Dr. Wallace's expanded interests include disaster medicine, global health and tropical medicine, ED clinical operations and administration, and medical education. He has lectured at national and international conferences and is a contributor to both JACEP Open and HippoEM podcasts. In 2020, he worked with leaders in the Department of Emergency Medicine to proctor a collaborative UAB School of Medicine and Federal Emergency Medicine Agency (FEMA) Disaster Medicine course for third year medical students. He continues to participate actively in residency didactics and bedside teaching while working clinically at all three of UAB's emergency department locations.
