Physician with over 30 years of clinical practice experience, Master's degree in Medical Informatics, and board certification in Clinical Informatics. Now consulting and teaching with focus on overcoming the usability barriers which discourage physicians from properly using health IT and prevent health IT from fully achieving its promise of improving healthcare quality and safety. Special interest in applying user-based research methods to measure the usability of electronic health records (EHRs), improving configuration, training, and change management during implementation of EHRs, defining functional best practices in the User Centered Design of EHRs, and improving Clinical Decision Support systems to decrease clinician cognitive load and improve outcomes.
