• My main interest in philosophy has been ethics, which grew out of the age-old question: What do you want? My study of two giants in philosophy, Plato and Nietzsche, arose from an attempt to understand the psychology that lies beneath their widely divergent ethical systems, along with their unique philosophical methods. In my teaching and research, my goal is to find those ways in which past thinkers might have something important to say in modern discourse about the nature of ethics, the nature of human desire, and, of course, the nature of human flourishing. My other interests involve philosophy of mind, philosophy of religion, and social and political philosophy.
