Dr. Colin Martin was appointed as an assistant professor in general surgery in 2012. A native of Delaware, Martin received his undergraduate degree from Carson Newman College. He began his education in medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine from where he graduated in 2003. His surgical residency in general surgery was completed at University of Cincinnati in 2010. He completed his postdoctoral research fellowship in 2008 at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and his pediatric surgery fellowship in 2012 at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Martin is a specialist in intestinal rehabilitation surgery and scientist. His research interests include Mucosal immunology and B –cell mediated antibody development. Dr. Martin presently serves as Surgical Director of Georgeson Center for Intestinal Rehabilitation.
Dr. Martin’s clinical interests include intestinal failure and necrotizing enterocolitis. He has a special interest in the role of innate immunity in intestinal diseases of prematurity.
