Overview

  • My career has spanned 39 years as a physical therapist clinician, hospital rehabilitation administrative director, Doctor of Physical Therapy Program Director and associate professor. I currently am a PT Panel Commissioner for the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education. At UAB, I continue to teach professional practice and integumentary examination and management. I serve as the faculty liaison and clinician for three pro bono clinics within the UAB system: Equal Access Birmingham (a student led interprofessional practice clinic), PATH clinic and Heart Failure Transitional Care Clinic.

    Teaching Overview

  • I have primarily taught in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at The University of Alabama at Birmingham across the topics of professional practice, integumentary examination and management, pathology and pharmacology for movement disorders and clinical decision making.

    Integrating interprofessional simulation opportunities across the DPT curriculum has been a great passion of mine. The curriculum now includes 5 activities for 1st - 3rd year students. Not all simulation is high fidelity manikin based; rather, we have developed and participate in that involve simulated patient encounters, poverty simulations and a physical therapist / nursing educational activity. I am proud of my colleagues who continue to create additional experiences that students find so worthwhile!
