Cora Brasfield Causey is an assistant professor in the School of Education at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She designs and delivers professional learning in early literacy, math, and science for practicing and preservice early childhood educators. Her research is focused on scientific reasoning in young children and builds on the work of Dr. Constance Kamii and her book, Physical Knowledge in Preschool Education. Her emphasis is on moral and intellectual development through best practice in early literacy, math, and science. A former kindergarten and first grade teacher, she also serves as the site director for an urban summer enrichment program. She is the founder and current director of the undergraduate Honors program, leading pre-service students in classroom research. As an Early Childhood leader she serves various local, state, and national groups. She enjoys serving on the national level as a Peer Reviewer for NAEYC Accreditation of Early Childhood Higher Education Programs and NAEYC National Recognition and Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation.
