Overview

  • Virginia A Campbell MD is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Gerontology, Geriatrics and Palliative Care at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Dr. Campbell grew up in Huntsville, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering before moving to Birmingham earn her Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering. She graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in 1984. Following her internship at Lloyd Noland Hospital she spent several years as an Assistant Professor in Biomedical Engineering, before completing her Family Medicine Residency at Carraway Methodist Medical Center in 1991.Dr. Campbell spent over 20 years practicing Emergency Medicine in rural Alabama before returning to UAB for Fellowship training in Palliative Medicine. She joined the UAB Faculty in 2015 and she is an attending physician at the Birmingham VAMC. Besides her many years of clinical experience Dr. Campbell is best known for her highly respected Brain Science podcast, which she has hosted and produced since 2006.
