Dr. Ambika Ashraf is the Division Director of Pediatric Endocrinology at UAB, Ralph Frohsin Endowed Chair in Pediatric Endocrinology. Also, she is Director of the Pediatric Lipid Clinic at the Children’s of Alabama, Co-Director of the multi-disciplinary Pediatric Metabolic Bone clinic, and an Associate Director of the UAB Comprehensive Diabetes Center. She is a professor in the Department of Pediatrics. She earned her medical degree from the Calicut University, Kerala, India. Subsequently, she completed pediatric residency, and pediatric endocrinology fellowship at the Children’s Hospital, University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is board certified in Pediatrics, Pediatric Endocrinology, and Clinical Lipidology. She is internationally known for her work on lipid disorders and initiated the Pediatric Lipid Special Interest group at the PES. Dr. Ashraf is a member of multiple professional societies, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, Pediatric Endocrine Society, ASBMR, Society for Pediatric Research and National Lipid Association. She has served as the Chair Person for the AAP National Conference and Exhibition of the Section on Endocrinology and program co-chair of Pediatric Endocrine Society. Dr. Ashraf is active in clinical research investigating lipid, bone and mineral homeostasis, and diabetes. Dr. Ashraf also serves on the sub-board of Endocrinology for the American Board of Pediatrics.
